Megan’s Story

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

Going on 3 months now. Prior to CF what type of exercise did I do? Hmm… does chasing my 3-year-old around count?  I did play basketball in college but that was like forever ago.

What attracted you to CrossFit?

What were your goals in the beginning? I knew I needed something that would push me. Working out on my own I would quickly find myself skipping the things I didn’t like doing, or only doing half of my original plan. I am just one of those people that needs to work out in a group setting. My overall goal is to just be a better me than the day before. I started CrossFit 4 months after I had my 2nd son. At the end of my pregnancy I was around 230 lbs., I gained over 80 lbs.! (Yikes!) I started CrossFit around 170 lbs. and now I’m down to around 150 lbs. I don’t have a weight goal in mind, I just want my body to be able to perform the way I want it too. I now find myself setting goals on the movements we do in class, or trying to do a work out as prescribed.

What were your feelings going into CrossFit?

Gosh my feelings my first day of CrossFit… hmm, nervous, scared and skeptical. I remember the day before going, I told myself I needed to start working out again. That day I got in my car, there were 3 options I had to pick from…  head to the gym and do the elliptical for an hour (maybe), go to a boot camp class that I went to a few times last year, or go to Ft. Meigs CrossFit…. As I was getting on the highway I told myself to set aside my pride and I headed to Ft. Meigs CrossFit. Walking into the gym I was super nervous but was greeted with open arms and excitement. Now the only feelings I have are regret in not joining sooner.

What do you like about CrossFit?

What would you say to someone who is considering getting started? Whoa, there is a laundry list of things I love about CrossFit! The workouts, the people, the soreness I feel every day, the changes in my body, etc.… I was one of those people that heard about CrossFit 5 years ago, but just put off going to a gym because I was intimated. What I tell people about it, is why wait? Whether you are the most in shape person or have never picked up a weight in your life, you can do a CrossFit workout.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

😊 I’m a big fan of cardio workouts, so anything that involves rowing, assault bike or running I am game all day long.

What impact has CrossFit had on your daily life?

The impact CrossFit has had on my daily life, well I’m now able to run up and down the stairs carrying 3 loads of laundry without keeling over out of breath, I’m also able to carry a car seat with a 20 lbs. baby in one hand and a 3-year-old in the other without breaking a sweat! Ha kidding. In all seriousness, I know my kid’s energy depends a lot on me and if I am happy, (hopefully) they will be too. CrossFit makes me a happier person, it makes me feel good about myself inside and out.

Proudest CrossFit moment?

Each time I go to a workout there is something I’ve done that I couldn’t do a week or month ago, so I think I’m just proud of this journey I started and hopefully one day it will inspire someone else to start theirs.
